Kenya Power Conducts Nationwide Network Maintenance to Boost Grid Reliability
Kenya Power has been conducting planned maintenance outages across multiple counties in March 2026, part of its ongoing effort to upgrade infrastructure and reduce power interruptions.
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has been conducting a series of planned network maintenance operations across the country throughout March 2026, as part of its ongoing infrastructure upgrade programme aimed at improving service reliability and stabilising the national power grid.
The utility has issued regular notices alerting customers in Nairobi, Kisumu, Bungoma, Kakamega, Mombasa, Nakuru, and dozens of other counties about scheduled outages lasting between seven and nine hours per maintenance window. Most outages run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm to allow engineers maximum working hours during daylight.
According to Kenya Power, the planned maintenance activities involve inspection of electrical lines, replacement of ageing components, system upgrades, and safety checks. Such operations are considered essential to prevent unexpected outages and ensure a consistent electricity supply in rapidly growing urban and peri-urban zones across the country.
The importance of grid maintenance was further underscored in early March when heavy rains flooded the South C Substation in Nairobi, damaging equipment and cutting power to several neighbourhoods including South B, South C, Nairobi West, Madaraka Estate, and Industrial Area. Kenya Power engineers worked to restore supply by rerouting power through adjacent substations.
Businesses operating in areas affected by planned outages are advised to invest in backup power solutions, including generator sets, UPS systems, and solar with battery storage, to minimise disruptions to operations. Georan Solutions Limited specialises in the supply and installation of backup power systems, solar PV, and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) solutions suitable for commercial and institutional clients.
